Due to the function of Sash Windows, it can be rather hard to paint them without having them stuck, or destroying the look when opening the panels. Keep your Sash Windows slightly open throughout this whole process:

• Prepare by removing curtains, blinds or other window accessories. Lay down a drop cloth to protect the floor and clean the sash windows and frames.
• Remove hardware, such as handles, sash window lifts and locks. If removal is not possible, cover them with masking tape.
• Sand the sash window sashes and frames using medium-grip sandpaper to remove old paint and varnish, creating a smooth surface. Wipe down the sash window sashes and frames with a damp cloth to remove debris from the sanding.
